After Carl Jenksinson’s long awaited comeback last night in the league cup, the English right back said that he needs to try and force his way into the starting eleven. The Gunners managed to see off Reading with two goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to see them progress to the next round of the EFL Cup.
Wenger sent the English defender on loan as it looked like he would struggle to get much game time at the Emirates with the emergence of Hector Bellerin.
This is what he had to say to Arsenal.com about how he needs to force his way into the team:
“Hector has been fantastic so far,” he said, “and he rightly deserves to be playing regularly.
“He has been brilliant so it is up to me when I get chances to play as well as I can and push him as well as I can.
“I have just got to keep grafting away, stay fit and play as much as I can and when I get opportunities I have got to take them.
“I have got my foot in the door, played against Reading and hopefully I can play in the next round and get some opportunities here.”
Jenkinson also spoke his time at West Ham and how great it is to be back at the club he’s supported all his life. The English right-back made 23 appearances for the Hammers and even scored two goals in the process. However the loan wasn’t as successful as the previous season where he made thirteen more appearances for the East London Club.
“I loved my time at West Ham,” he continued. “I played a lot of football and it was fantastic for me. It’s a great club and I enjoyed every minute I had there, but it is great for me to be back here now.
“Arsenal is my club and it is an honour every time I pull on the shirt. I still want to be good enough to play here.”
