The Arsenal manager has said there is a strong chance that the right back will be playing his football somewhere else very soon. The Gunners are currently in negotiations with the South London club, over the fee.
Jenkinson has not been able to break through to the first team this season, with the player only making five starts for the club. The England international has also managed to recover from an ACL injury this season; however he’s looked a bit shaky when he’s had the chance to play.
There has been a number of clubs in for the right back, including: West Ham, Hull City as well as Crystal Palace.
This is what the Frenchman had to say about the deal:
“Carl…it’s a possibility that he will move yes. In the next two or three days,” Wenger told his pre-Swansea press conference.
On Crystal Palace specifically:
“It’s possible yes, I cannot tell you much more because we haven’t come to a conclusion yet.”
Despite Jenkinson’s potential departure, Wenger played down suggestions he could look to bring in a replacement during the transfer window.
“No we have still Mathieu Debuchy who is injured, we have Gabriel who plays there at the moment as well. We have Bellerin.
“We are not short in this position which is why we allow one of the players to go out because they have less opportunities to play.”
Jenkinson’s contract runs until 2018, having signed a new deal in 2015. It is believed that the Gunners are looking for a fee between £3 to £3.5m.
