Arsenal has reportedly offered €100m for the young forward, who currently plays at Monaco, French publication L’Equipe have reported. Though the reporter was quick to state that if the transfer target fails, Wenger has Lacazette in mind as well.
With Manchester and Real Madrid competing for the 18-year old’s signature, it’s going to be hard for the manager to attract him to the Emirates without the lure of Champions League football, which might be a step down for the player.
Although it might seem an impossible dream, Wenger does have previous ties with the player and even visited the player’s house in 2016 to try and sign the player. This was revealed last month, how he himself personally visited his house when he was at the end of his contract at the French club. However, his efforts were short lived as the player decided to sign a new deal instead of moving. The Gunners were even linked with the French youngster in May, with an offer of £85m reported by the English press.
Though even with his best efforts most players do want to play Champions League football and it can be a deal breaker. This wouldn’t be a problem for Alexandre Lacazette, as his club is also playing Europa League football next season.
With Atletico Madrid failing to get their transfer ban lifted it would mean the Gunners will have a better chance to get the players signature. United are also set to be after the player and have said to have already made a bid, but this is all speculation at best.
There are also Arsenal rumours that Giroud will most likely go in the opposite direction and head to France, the Gunners are certainly in need of a striker who fits the bill as ‘top-class’. Mbappe meets the requirements with his pace, power and technique which will suit Arsenal’s new style of play, but getting his signature will be the hardest part.
