After the Mbappe rumours have started to die down, it’s gone a bit quiet on the Arsenal transfer front. Juventus have made a bid of around four million euros for Wojciech Szczesny, which really is laughable. Saying that we have quite a history of selling players for well below their market value, so maybe it’s not that unrealistic.
I don’t see how the club can come anywhere near to accepting that offer, seeing as he got the most clean sheets in Serie A last season and is only getting better. Wenger seems adamant on letting him go and bringing in Emmanuel Martinez as the second choice keeper, after their incident at Southampton all those years ago. Though it might not be that hard to stomach with Martinez impressing on his starts this season and has been at the club all his footballing career. Though I’m still finding it hard to believe that he doesn’t want to give him a second chance, seeing as this is someone that Juventus are interested in bringing in as a long term replacement for Buffon.
On the incoming end of the transfer speculation, there was talk that Lyon’s president Jean Michel Aulas and his advisor Gerard Houllier were in London to talk with Arsenal over the possibility of exchanging Alexandre Lacazette for Olivier Giroud. Though the Gunners have always seemed to have an interest in the player this transfer season and all the previous, it does seem strange to sign someone who can’t get into the France team for the person that’s keeping him out of the team.
However, all this transfer activity will surely depend on the future of Alexis Sanchez, with the player still not yet to sign a new contract with the club alongside Mesut Ozil. Both of which will be Arsenal’s priorities, but without Champions League football next season it might make for a more difficult task than it would have been previously.
