With the prestigious Emirates Cup on the horizon, it means that it can’t be too long till the season starts. With the international Champions Cup already in the bag, it means we can do the double before our first Premier League fixture of the season…
With games against Benfica and Sevilla, it will be a bigger test than we’ve faced in earlier pre season. Although we have faced Bayern Munich and Chelsea previously, these Emirates Cup games are played a lot closer to the start of the domestic league and are more likely to be played at a higher tempo, with a few more first teamers coming back into the fray.
In terms of a team news for the first game of the competition Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers came back into training yesterday, meaning they’re all likely to play a part in the competition. Their late arrivals to pre season were due to their time in the European U21 Championships.
Jack Wilshere has also returned to training after his loan deal with Bournemouth expired, though I don’t think the player or the club is too certain where he’ll be playing football once the transfer window is closed. There have been reports in the press that the club is happy to let him go, though the same reports say that the player wants to stay, so I’m not too sure what’s going on. The Englishman managed to make 27 appearances for the Cherries last season, so he will be wanting to carry on playing first team football, which Arsenal can’t guarantee him at this stage.
Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy and Kieran Gibbs are all making appearances as the reserves play Boreham Wood tonight in the annual friendly. This means they’re unlikely to make an appearance in the Emirates Cup. All three of which have been linked with moves away from the club and will likely to move in the coming weeks, as they are considered surpluses to the team. The main interest for Kieran Gibbs seems to be coming from Watford, whereas there doesn’t seem to have been much interest for the other two players, which is quite worrying for Arsenal and the duo.Emir
