Competition: Premier League
Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge this Sunday in what could make or break their Premier League chances. The Gunners got off to a bad start domestically having lost two out of four games to Stoke and Liverpool, however since those defeats Wenger’s side have beaten Bournemouth 3-0 and German side Cologne 3-1 on Thursday night in the Premier League.
Although Arsenal managed to beat the Blues in the F.A Cup and Community Shield only a few months earlier, most Arsenal fans won’t be too confident that the Gunners can pick up the three points.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsene Wenger will revert back to a back four against Chelsea. The team did start with the usual three alongside the wingbacks against Cologne. However, this was quickly changed at halftime, after the Gunners went 1-0 down to a stunning goal catching David Ospina off his line.
After that, the team looked a lot more reassured in the middle with the extra man and the opposition didn’t really pose any threat. In terms of team news, we’ll see the return of all the first team players weren’t involved in the midweek match.
Petr Cech will come back into the team. if Wenger keeps with the 4-2-3-1 formation it will be likely that Koscielny and Mustafi will be the centre-back pairing, with Bellerin on the right and Kolasinac on the left. The holding two should be Ramsey and Xhaka, hopefully reverting back to the old formation should give Ramsey a bit more freedom, something he thrives on.
With Danny Welbeck putting in a great performance last week he should start in the left forward position with Alexis on the other side, although they can easily change. With the Lacazette up to with Ozil in behind.
Although us Arsenal fans aren’t expecting much from the match, if it’s anything other than three points I think it will be another season of our only realistic ambition is making the top four.
