Arsenal – West Ham: Match Preview

Sometimes, the names are so confusing, aren’t they? what is it called now, Carabao?? Mickey Mouse, Carling Cup, League up, the never-ending names and the pleasing of the sponsors apart, tonight gives an opportunity to the ” back up’ team to progress to the semi-finals of this trophy. With West Ham standing in their path to prevent it from happening.

David Moyes ensured the spoils were shared when the two teams met a week back in the league and he may have even got three points, if not for a Javier Hernandez miss towards the end of the match. Arsenal were laboured in that game (where have we heard that before) and if that game is any indicator for today’s fixture, we may be in for another one of those nights.

West Ham will fancy their chances, Arnautovic seems to have his head steady, the defence has been shored up and in Andy Carroll, they have an impact sub who can cause alarms to our defence.

Talking about defence, Arsenal look likely to field a back four again. This would mean starts for Per( hmmm) and Debuchy along with Niles and Chambers. Ospina gets his rare start between the sticks. Communication is key as these four hardly have played and Per needs to wake up from his slumber as well (remember Charlie Austin and the saints).

Jack has played back to back games and could be rested, bearing in mind he is likely to start the Friday game against . This could mean starts for both Elneny and Coquelin in the midfield. Who will play the creative midfielder is anyone’s guess…

The front three pick themselves up, Theo/Giroud/Welbeck and what all three need to realise is they won’t get too many chances to either stake their claim to the first team or for potential suitors in January. They need to play for their career at Arsenal and away from it as well if that is what they want to do.

Trophies are trophies, with the Premier League a distant dream, the Carabao Cup or any other will still mean a lot to this team who yet again have underachieved this season. With a potential semi final against City/United or Chelsea, the bare minimum must be to win tonight and then look forward to the semi finals.

Will the Gunners hammer the Hammers or will it be the other way round, time shall tell.
