Arsenal set to finally make a bid for Mustafi
The Gunners have stepped up the hunt for a centre back after Gabriel was ruled out for eight weeks with an ankle injury that he picked up in the pre-season match against Manchester City.
Wenger is already struggling for defensive options with Per Mertesacker already on the side-lines through injury and Laurent Koscielny only returning to training this week following his Euro campaign this summer.
This means that the North London club will have no senior centre backs to field against Liverpool and will likely start with Calum Chambers and Rob Holding.
There have been reports that Wenger is trying to bring in a new defender before the Liverpool game, with the Daily Mail claiming that we’re set to make a £30m bid for Shkodran Mustafi.
The release clause for the 24 year old is still £42m; however reports have suggested that Valencia will accept £25m for the German. This means that the £30m bid should be enough for the player and that the Spanish club will let him go.
