Wenger - “I made Flamini come back, because I think he is a winner”
The Arsenal veteran gave the Gunners the lead before Calum Chambers turned Nacer Chadli’s strike beyond David Ospina, but then the Frenchman volleyed a 25-yard volley into the bottom corner to secure Arsenal’s place in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup against Sheffield Wednesday.
This is what Wenger had to say about the defensive midfielders impressive performance:
“I made him come to Arsenal, I made him come back, because I think he is a winner,” the manager told Arsenal Player. “He is a guy who always wants to help the team to win and that’s why I’m very pleased for him.
“It was a fantastic goal. I saw when the ball was in the air that he had decided he would take a chance. He took it well and of course it was a great goal.
“Everybody took their chance, but it’s not the only chance because I rotate a bit from game to game and I felt that it was needed because we’ve given a lot recently in three days with 10 players. I needed to refresh the team and it worked.
“It was important for us to win and we did it. It can quickly become a drop of belief, of confidence and it was important to respond. I must say that we were at the requested level physically and mentally from the start onwards. Overall we delivered a good performance.”
