Wenger looking to spend in the summer

The Arsenal manager says the Gunners must spend and invest in the squad this summer. However Wenger has said that it will be difficult to find the perfect players to bring to the club and that player development is another solution to improve the squad.

It looks likely that a few of the older players will be leaving Arsenal this summer and a few that haven’t been performing up to scratch. This means that Wenger will be looking to bring in a few fresh faces in the next few months.

This is what the Arsenal manager had to say about the matter ahead of the Gunners game against Crystal Palace on Sunday:

“We have to strengthen our squad but it’s not obvious to find the players despite the money the English clubs will have. We are already working but we have to find the players and that is not easy.

“You cannot dismiss that the players are young. Alex Iwobi is 19, Mohamed Elneny is 23, Francis Coquelin 24, and they will be stronger next year but you need to keep a core of players and strengthen where we can.

“The team is going the right way.”

Wenger also spoke about the chances of Tottenham finishing above Arsenal and has said that it won’t change anything between the two clubs. It’s been eighteen years since Spurs last finished above Arsenal in the league:

“First of all, we are not behind Spurs yet,” he said. “Tottenham have been 18 years behind us and they’ve survived. So let’s be realistic.”

With Arsenal out of the title race, the Frenchman spoke about Leicester:

“If Leicester win on Sunday it does not affect us, it does not change the fact that we absolutely have to win our game against Palace. Let’s prepare for that no matter what the result is.

“We need a perfect run. They can drop points on Sunday but if they go until the end of the season having lost only three games what can you say … well done, congratulations, even if it’s Leicester that nobody expected.”
