The Arsenal manager says that Kieran Gibbs is a doubt for Sunday’s match against Spurs, after the left back injured his shoulder in the 3-2 win over Ludogorets in the Champions League this week.
The young Englishman left the pitch to receive treatment; however he played on and managed to finish the full 90 minutes.
“We have some uncertainties,” Wenger told press on Thursday morning. “Gibbs has been touched on his shoulders, we’ll see how he reacts today.”
This throws up some conundrums for Arsene Wenger, as the normal first team left back Nacho Monreal is also struggling for fitness.
“Monreal has tests today and tomorrow and then we’ll decide,” confirmed Wenger.
Santi Cazorla has also been on the side-lines recently and still hasn’t trained since picking up an Achilles problem. This is what the Wenger had to say about the Spaniard:
“he’ll try and practice today and we’ll go from there”
However there was some good news about the return of Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin, who could be back for the North London derby.
“Bellerin could have played in Bulgaria,” said Wenger, “I think he should be alright.”
“The closest [of the others] to coming back, looks to be Walcott. He has a test today.”
