Competition: Carabao Cup
Previous match: 5-2 Everton – Match Preview & Player Ratings
It’s likely we’ll see a very rotated side for tonight’s league cup match against Norwich. Having just beaten Everton at the weekend with a comfortable 5-2 win, using the preferred starting line up, it’s likely that anyone who started at Goodison Park won’t be starting tonight.
It’s fortunate that we do have the depth to rotate the squad, playing what seems like two separate teams, one in the Premier League and another in the Europa League and Carabao Cup. The likes of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi will start for Arsenal tonight, maybe even Jack Wilshere, though the manager might be a bit reluctant seeing as he played a part in the game at the weekend.
The Front three will most likely use the players as mentioned before, with Theo on the right, Iwobi on the left with the Frenchman up top. If the manager picks a similar side to what was seen in the Europa League it means that Francis Coquelin and Joe Willock should play in behind the forwards.
It really comes down to where Wenger sees Wilshere’s role in the team as to whether he plays him tonight. With questions about his fitness and ability still occurring, it will be interesting to see if he leaves him out in the intent of using him in a more vital role in the weekend game against Swansea.
With David Ospina still out injured it means that Matt Macey will most likely start between the sticks, which will be his first competitive appearance for the club. The manager will most likely use the same back five he used in the Europa League: Nelson, Debuchy, Elneny, Holding and Maitland-Niles with that defence not conceding in their last outing.
Norwich certainly won’t be a pushover, with the club currently sitting sixth in the Championship, having not lost a match since the end of August.
